I never imagined that at the age of twenty years old I would start a business, after all thats not what I had planned with my life but God had a different idea. This business was a HUGE leap of faith as it was my only form of income for two and a half years but I loved every minute of it. Read more below to find out how Uncover The Gem came about. xx

At twenty years old and in my third year of a Social Work degree I came up with the idea to start Uncover The Gem. The idea came about one day after I found out I would no longer be receiving a youth allowance (a payment that students receive to help them while studying at university), sitting there wondering how I was going to get through my final year of university with no income and suddenly an idea popped into my head, why don’t I start a business and make my own money. My next step was deciding what that business would be, while laying in bed looking at my dresser which had been up-cycled I thought to myself I could do that, I could restore furniture. My first problem was I didn’t have a creative bone in me but decided to take a leap of faith and give it a shot. I came up with the name Uncover The Gem and started all platforms of social media within the same day. It all became surreal, Uncover The Gem was born. I am still on a journey with this business and continue to love every second of it.
I have since graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work with honours and continue to run a successful business on the side while working full-time. I find painting is a way of escaping and I feel a sense of freedom while painting.
